Upon
reaching a predetermined altitude, an automatic activation
device releases a large pilot chute that in turn
extracts one or more large conventional round recovery
parachutes (RP) that will lower the cargo to the
ground in the traditional manner.
The
rapid rate of descent under the small steerable ram-air
drogue considerably reduces the time in the air,
translating into less exposure for the cargo, while
minimizing wind drift effect and permitting more
precise targeting. The ability to precisely drop
cargo from a higher and safer altitude substantially
increases the safety of the aircraft as well.
Designated
the “SCREAMER” (Patent Pending), our
concept of a small ram-air drogue with GPS or our
own Ram Air Drogue guidance system is compatible
and easily combined with most existing cargo configurations
and aerial delivery parachute systems. Requiring
relatively minor modifications, the SCREAMER concept
will introduce stand-off capability to presently
existing cargo configurations. We expect this ram-air
drogue feature to be a resourceful low cost way of
expanding the operational limitations of existing
conventional cargo parachutes while increasing the
precision of landings. |
